Special offer on CDs and news of our next album.

I can’t believe that it’s just over a year since we launched our album, Elsewhere, Elsewhen. It’s proved really popular with strong sales at events and online and radio plays from Orkney to Florida!

To celebrate this anniversary, we have a special offer for the limited period of December and January: you can buy Elsewhere, Elsewhen together with an album of music by our close friend, composer Gemma McGregor, entitled From Nothing, which, like our own album, includes music for strings and wind inspired by the Far North and Orkney in particular. It is performed by the Eris Ensemble. The pack of 2 CDs is available for just £15. Just make sure that you click on the tab with both CDs in our shop: https://nordicviola.wordpress.com/shop/

Prints and Cards

If you’re looking for that special gift for Christmas, we also still have sets of cards of Orla Stevens’ ever-popular pictures from our Sagas and Seascapes production as well as a limited number of A4 prints, all available from our shop: https://nordicviola.wordpress.com/shop/

Your support is very much valued and purchases from our shop really do support our ongoing work, which brings me to:

New album launching in February 2025

I’m really excited to announce that in February 2025 we’ll be launching our next album, On A Wing and A Prayer – Reflections on Deeside’s changing habitat. This album of music for viola and electronics was recorded live at The Barn, Banchory in March this year and features music for viola and electronics composed by Pete and Joe Stollery with Katherine Wren inspired by the beauty as well as the changing habitat of Glen Quoich in Upper Deeside. There is also a piece by Scottish/Icelandic composer, Charles Ross, which was specially commissioned for this programme, as well as Aberdeenshire fiddler Paul Anderson‘s Bonnie Glen Quoich.

We have an exciting programme of events lined up for you with a launch in Aberdeen on 6th February. We also have a full day of events for you close to Nordic Viola’s home, at the University of Stirling Art Collection on 8th February. This will include sound and art workshops with the three composers and our artist Orla Stevens, followed by a full performance of the album at 6pm.

I’ll also be running a series of intergenerational workshops in Dunblane with some special guests during February.

You can find out more about the inspiration behind the music on the album here:

Information on all these events to follow after Christmas, but get the dates in your diary now!
