On A Wing and A Prayer is a series of concerts of specially composed music for viola/percussion/electronics and for string trio uniquely designed with and for rural populations in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland by Nordic Viola and composers resident in those areas. The musicians worked closely with conservationists and ecologists learning about changing habitats and expressing these ideas and emotions from a starting point of field recordings and improvisation. Nordic Viola also paired each composer’s music with that of a Nordic composer writing in a complementary style.
Audiences were asked to give their own thoughts about habitat change in their own area and these comments serve as prompts for a series of intergenerational workshops around Scotland.
